What can $75 actually buy you at a trendy NYC thrift store

Ever wonder how much you actually need to thrift a great secondhand outfit? In this episode of ITK: Thrift Talk, our host and thrifting expert Siena Filippi (@simply.siena) demonstrates how far a thrifting budget can go. She manages to source an entire outfit for an incredible price. Shopping at AuH2O in New York City’s East Village, Siena’s challenge is a daytime look and a nighttime look for just $75.

“Thrifting is great because it’s sustainable, but we can also find unique, one-for-one pieces without compromising quality,” Siena says.

Starting with something in black, Siena explains that the color works as a great neutral making it easy to build an outfit around. Siena selects a corset she believes is perfect for layering. Next, she picks out a black Alexander Wang skirt to match the corset before setting off to find another piece to contrast her outfit.

Siena’s next two finds are a red lingerie top and a white button-down blouse. She says these picks can give her outfit some day-to-night options. For accessorizing, she selects a heart pendant necklace with pink beads that match the buttons on the blouse.

For the daytime look, Siena wears the corset layered over the button-down blouse and skirt. The red lingerie top worn over the Alexander Wang skirt completes the evening option. The grand total for these two outfits – consisting of two tops, a corset, a skirt and a necklace – comes to $75.06. Right on budget!
