EU Imposes New Sanctions on Russia: 16th Package Unveiled
On Monday, European Union foreign ministers unanimously approved the implementation of the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, as confirmed by two diplomatic sources. The move marks a significant escalation in the EU's economic response to Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Comprehensive Measures Targeting Key Sectors
Diplomatic sources had previously indicated that the comprehensive measures would entail a ban on imports of primary aluminum from Russia. The package also includes restrictions on the sale of gaming consoles, a move that aims to limit Russia's access to advanced technology. Furthermore, 73 vessels belonging to the so-called "shadow fleet" have been added to the EU's sanctions list, freezing their access to European ports and financial services.
