Rekindling the Creative Spirit

Despite the closure of the original Workshop in the '90s, its legacy has endured. To foster a new generation of musicians, BBC Studios and Spitfire Audio have partnered to release this comprehensive library, granting access to the Workshop's vast archive.

A Treasure Trove of Sonic Delights

The library encompasses a wide array of instruments, sounds, and effects, including:

  • Original recordings from archival tapes
  • Exclusive new recordings from Workshop members
  • Microphones, turntables, loudspeakers
  • Reverb machines, synthesizers, tape machines
  • Vocoders and other electronic devices

Bridging Past and Present

Mark Ayres, a Workshop member, marvels at the parallels between modern sampling techniques and the workflows of the Workshop's pioneers. He describes the library as a "unique instrument," embodying "the work, processes, and equipment that the Workshop created and used."

By opening this archive to the public, the BBC hopes to inspire future generations of musicians and preserve the legacy of the Radiophonic Workshop for years to come.
