US Proposes UN Resolution on Ukraine Anniversary amid European Tensions

The United States has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council for a vote ahead of the General Assembly's planned vote on Monday, marking the three-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

US Move against Ukraine-EU Draft

The US action puts it at odds with Ukraine and the European Union (EU), who have been negotiating a separate draft resolution for the General Assembly vote. The US's move comes after its refusal to co-sponsor the Ukraine-EU draft.

Security Council Vote Pending

A vote on the US draft resolution in the Security Council has yet to be scheduled. For adoption, a resolution requires nine votes in favor and no vetoes from the five permanent members: the US, Russia, China, Britain, and France.
